Wild & Bold They Stand
Handmade, limited edition linocut depicting the remains of a disused tin mine engine house, overlooking the breathtaking Cornish coast. The title of this print is taken from the "The Song of the Cornish Miners" by Herbert Thomas, 1895.
"We love they cliffs, old Cornwall,
As wild and bold they stand..."
This is an original linocut, handprinted from my home workshop in North Devon. It is a nine-layer reduction print - which is a method of printmaking where only one block of lino is used to print from. You print your first layer/colour, having carved away any areas that you want to remain white (or whatever paper colour you're using). You then carve away more material from the block - anything you want to keep the colour you've just printed - before applying the next layer/colour. And so on and so on. You generally work light to dark. With this method, you alter the lino each time - so there's no going back and reprinting!

Also, since this work is handprinted, there are natural variances and minor imperfections in each print, which adds to the handmade charm and unique nature of the linocut.
