What to Expect

This is a warm and welcoming class where participants can work at their own pace on individual projects. Whether you have a specific idea in mind or need inspiration, I will share my knowledge and experience in linocut to gently assist and guide you. I will help you conceptualise your ideas into print format and encourage you to push your prints to the next level.

We can cover the following as and when you find it relevant to your particular level or project:

  • Materials and tools for linocutting and printing

  • Developing an idea or image and transferring it to your lino block.

  • Carving into the lino safely

  • Methods and techniques for adding layers of colour (Multi-block, jigsaw and reduction techniques).

  • Handprinting effectively. (I will not cover printing with a press).

Class numbers are kept small with a maximum of with participants Tea and biscuits are provided, and participants are encouraged to share their ideas and techniques while developing their unique styles.

Materials & what to bring

I will provide the basic tools and materials you need to produce your linoprints. As you progress, you may wish to invest in some more robust tools. I can provide advice in this area and can let you try out various options that I use in my own practice. I can also provide additional, more advanced materials (higher quality inks, papers etc) that will be charged at cost, based on what you actually use.

If you have ideas for a project and/or sketch book, pencil case, your own linocutting tools, please bring these along. If not - that's absolutely fine! Just bring yourself, your enthusiasm and creativity, and we'll take it from there.

What's next?

My intention is to run this class as a half-termly five week block. Each time, I will offer my current cohort first refusal on the next block of classes with a 10% discount. My hope is that participants will continue to build on their skills as well as enjoying the sense of community that the class brings. Any spaces that become available will be offered out publicly.
